2007
In August, the Company completed the conversion of USD1 billion convertible bonds of Korea SK Telecom which now holds 6.60% of shares in the Company.
In October, the Company launched 3G services in Macau.
In December, the Company successfully acquired its cellular businesses and GSM network assets in Guizhou Province from the parent company and completed the overall listing of the relevant operations in the PRC.
2006
In July, the Company successfully issued an aggregate principal amount of US$1 billion convertible bond to SK Telecom Co. Ltd. of Korea and both parties entered into a strategic alliance framework agreement to cooperate in the mobile communications business areas.
On 14 August, the Company won the CDMA license in Macau Special Administrative Region and on 18 October, the Company officially launched CDMA service in Macau.
On 24 October, the Company won a licence to provide 3G (CDMA2000 1X EV-DO) mobile service in Macau. In November, the Company signed CDMA Business Cooperation MOU and Services Cooperation Agreement with Hanoi Telecom and Vietnam Telecom International respectively.
2005
On 18 October?the Company successfully launched the CDMA network in Macau to provide roaming services for CDMA users in Macau. This was the first time a domestic telecommunications operator launched a mobile communication network outside Mainland China.
2004
In September, China Unicom officially completed its acquisition of China Unicom International Limited, the wholly-owned subsidiary of its parent, Unicom Group.
2003
On 31 December, China Unicom completed the acquisition of equity interests in Unicom New World Telecommunications Corporation Limited ("Unicom New World") from Unicom Group. Apart from operating GSM mobile communication services in Shanxi, Hunan, Hainan, Yunnan, Gansu and Qinghai provinces and Inner Mongolia, Ningxia and Xizang autonomous regions in the PRC, Unicom New World also leases capacity on the CDMA network from Unicom New Horizon and operates CDMA services in those areas. At the same time, China Unicom further completed the sale of the entire equity interests in Guoxin Paging to Unicom Group.
2002
On 31 December, China Unicom completed the acquisition of equity interests in Unicom New Century Telecommunications Corporation Limited ("Unicom New Century") from Unicom Group. Apart from operating GSM mobile communication services in Jilin, Heilongjiang, Jiangxi, Henan, Shaanxi and Sichuan provinces, Chongqing municipality, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regions, Unicom New Century also leases capacity on the CDMA network from Unicom New Horizon and operates CDMA services in those areas.
On 3 January, China Unicom Corporation Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Unicom, leased capacity on the CDMA network in its service areas from Unicom New Horizon Telecommunications Corporation Limited ("Unicom New Horizon"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of China United Telecommunications Corporation ("Unicom Group") and commenced the operation of CDMA services.

On 1 June, China Unicom was included as a constituent stock of Hang Seng Index.
2000
On 21 & 22 June, China Unicom was listed on the New York Stock Exchange and the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong and the IPO raised US$5.653 billion.

On 8 February, China Unicom Limited ("China Unicom") was incorporated in Hong Kong.
